Evans, Avery Denver

Avery Denver Evans (1898-1974) was one of the original 12 students to enroll the first term of the Bible Training School, now Lee University.
Of the initial students, the first to arrive was 19-year-old Avery Denver Evans from North Carolina. He arrived on Saturday evening, December 29, 1917, with the mission of preparing himself to serve as a missionary to China. Eventually, he married Iris Tomlinson, the daughter of the school’s superintendent, and served as a denominational administrator with the Church of God of Prophecy. After the death of his first wife, he married Mary Ruth Parker and resided in Florida, were he died in 1974. He is buried near Orlando, Florida.
