Excellence in Teaching Award
Lee University has three faculty awards, each given annually in recognition of outstanding faculty: Excellence in Teaching, Excellence in Scholarship, and Excellence in Advising.
The oldest and most distinguished of the awards is for Excellence in Teaching. It was established in 1972 and recognizes one faculty member each year based on his or her demonstration of ability for effective teaching, relations with students, participation in the academic community, and research activity.
The recipient is nominated by either students or faculty members and selected by an unannounced Selection Committee appointed annually by the university president. The committee is composed of students and faculty representatives, each from a different department. This recipient of the award is recognized formally at Spring Commencement and is given a stipend.
