Hamilton, Roy Earl

Roy Earl Hamilton (1898-1984) was one of the original 12 students to enroll the first term of the Bible Training School, now Lee University.
Early Monday morning, December 31, 1917, the 20-year-old Hamilton and his wife, Nora, from Sobel, Tennessee, came into view as they walked up the street through the snow. He was among the first students, but she was not.
Earl Hamilton was a Church of God evangelist and employed as a carpenter prior to enrolling at the Bible school, and he noted his objective “in attending the Bible school is to get well trained for the last great conflict that is now at hand. To do this I must get acquainted with the Bible, so I would know how to give out the Word of God in a perfect manner and in the way that would be of the greatest benefit. I am preparing to be an evangelist and carry the glad tidings of great joy to lost souls.”
Earl Hamilton and Avery Evans were the first graduates of Bible Training School in April 1919 upon completing the required three terms. Later, Earl Hamilton’s daughter, Bea Odom (1920-2016), served as a professor at the school, then known as Lee College. He died in 1985 after serving almost 70 years in the ministry.
