Vice Presidents

Since 1989, a team of vice presidents have assisted the Lee president in the institution’s administration. However, the first person designated as a vice president at the institution was Earl M. Tapley, who was appointed as vice president in 1946 at the Bible Training School and College. He continued in this role through 1953 for Lee College, with the exception of half a year in 1951 when he served as Acting President. There was no designation of Vice President from 1953 until 1968, when Donald S. Aultman was recruited by President Cross. Aultman served as vice president until 1972, when he accepted another position with the Church of God.

In 1972, the Lee College Board of Directors made revisions to the administrative structure and replaced the vice president role with three new positions: Dean of the College (filled by Dr. R. Hollis Gause), Director of Development (filled by O. Wayne Chambers), and Director of Finance (filled by David Painter). These individuals joined others on the institution’s Administrative Council. The other positions were Dean of Admissions and Records, Dean of Division of Religion, Dean of Division of Education, Dean of Division of Arts and Sciences, and Dean of Students. This structure continued until Dr. Delton Alford was named Vice President and Dean of the College in 1977. He served in this role until he returned to the classroom in 1980.

It was not until 1985 that another vice president was designated at Lee when President R. Lamar Vest named Psychology professor C. Paul Conn as Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Conn served in this position until his inauguration as Lee president in 1986.

In 1988, a President’s Cabinet was formed and included the Executive Assistant to the President (David Tilley), Dean of the College (Ollie Lee), Dean of Students (Bill Balzano), Director of Institutional Advancement and Development (Dale Goff), and Director of Business and Finance (David Painter). The following year these positions were designated as Vice President positions. They included: Vice President and Executive Assistant to the President (David Tilley), Vice President and Academic Dean (Ollie Lee), Vice President for Business and Finance (David Painter), Vice President for Advancement (Dale Goff), and Vice President for Student Life (Henry Smith). Since then, Lee has maintained a vice presidential team to help guide the administrative work and various sectors of the institution.
