Wilcox, Lillie Mae

Lillie Mae Wilcox was one of the original 12 students to enroll the first term of the Bible Training School, now Lee University.
Wilcox was 18 years old when she arrived for classes. While not much is known about her life and ministry following that first term, her life story is interesting prior to becoming a student. From Georgia, the Wilcox family traveled in “show business” throughout Florida for much of Lillie Mae’s youth. It was after returning to Georgia in 1917 to learn new stage plays that the family became introduced to the Church of God. Reverend M. S. Lemons began preaching in the same building the family occupied near Broxton, Georgia, and the family attended his evangelistic services out of curiosity. Soon Lillie Mae and her parents were converted, and Lillie Mae felt called into ministry. In November 1917 she attended the Church of God General Assembly at Harriman, Tennessee, where she learned about the beginning of the Bible school. She secured the necessary funds and enrolled for the first term. Although she completed the first term, she did not return to the school thereafter, and her later story remains unknown at present.
